  • The Catholic Wedding (Latin Rite) of Novella and Jeff

Novella and Jeff chose to celebrate their intimate Catholic wedding (Traditional Latin Rite) in the charming town of Allendale, Michigan. Their ceremony took place at the beautiful St. Margaret Mary Church. Following the sacred ceremony, they hosted a warm and inviting reception at the Trillium Event Center in Spring Lake, MI.

Despite the bitter cold and the delicate, swirling snowflakes that fell from the sky. The day exuded a magical winter atmosphere. The snow transformed the landscape into a picturesque scene, perfectly complementing the couple’s joyous celebration. We were deeply honored to be entrusted with the task of photographing their Catholic wedding. Novella and Jeff thoughtfully ensured they had a Catholic photographer who possessed a deep understanding of the Holy Mass, recognizing the importance of capturing every meaningful moment, every sacred gesture, and every heartfelt expression throughout the ceremony. They wanted to preserve the essence of their faith and the beauty of their union for generations to come. The day was a testament to their love, and their faith!

  • Why you want remote cameras at your Catholic Wedding

Earlier this summer I was able to photograph a Catholic wedding in Detroit. The wedding Mass was held at St Hedwig. In order to capture all the beauty the church offered, I decided to use remote cameras as I was the only photographer for the day.

    What is a remote camera?

Before we get into the images, let’s briefly understand what a remote camera is and how it works. A remote camera allows a photographer to photograph the same scene from different angles all at once. The photographer is able to use a trigger/receiver devices and can trigger the remote camera in various ways. Although remote cameras are not typical seen in wedding photography, they are widely used in sports photography.

Putting the remote camera to use

Now that we know what a remote camera is, lets see what added benefit it can bring to couples during their wedding day.

The set up for the remote camera

I arrived early to get a lay of the land and look for potential spots to set up the remote camera. Once I identified the areas I was going to use it, I began setting up my equipment. In this wedding, I used Pocket Wizard Plus III and their cable for the Nikon Z6 II.

    Location #1

The first spot was going to be up on the balcony as the bride was walked down the aile by her father. Typically I would only be able to photograph the bride and FOB head on, but the remote allowed me to capture them from above and behind, highlighting the church and the bride’s walk to meet her soon-to-be husband.

    Location #2

The second location I will share with you today is during the Consecration. I wanted to capture this sacred moment with the bride and groom, while also incorporating as much of the church as possible.

  • Grace & Vaughn’s Catholic Wedding in Livonia, MI

St Michael the Archangel Parish in Livonia, MI was the church in which Grace and Vaughn were married. I had the great pleasure of photographing their Catholic wedding Mass. The wedding was beautiful and the weather that day matched too. It is always a great pleasure to be able to work with couples to capture their special day, but these two were amazing to work with!

We started the day off with Grace getting ready before meeting up with Vaughn at the church. After the ceremony we went to downtown Plymouth to the Penn Theater and Kellogg Park. After that we took a drive down Hines Dr. and stopped at Newburgh Pointe and the Stark Trail Parking Lot. Here is a sneak peak of their wedding day, can’t wait to share the whole gallery with them in the coming weeks.

  • Megan and Aaron’s Catholic Engagement Photos at Kensington Metropark in Milford, MI

Megan and Aaron are getting married this Fall, and can’t wait to capture their special day! That day will have to wait, but fortunately we recently came together to capture their engagement photos. We met up at Kensington Metropark, a beautiful park located in Milford, Michigan. The park has a variety of different settings, from rolling hills and forests to open fields and lakes. This made it the perfect place to capture Megan and Aaron’s engagement session in the evening.

We started our shoot in the late afternoon, when the sun was starting to set. The light was soft and warm, creating a perfect end to our day. We took some photos by the pond, where the cranes were looking for their dinner. We also took some photos in the woods, where the trees were casting long shadows.

The golden hour is a great time to photograph engagement photos because the light is so beautiful. The sun is low in the sky, which creates soft, diffused light. Megan and Aaron were naturals which only helped the photos!

We finished our shoot just as the sun was setting. The sky was ablaze with color, and the light was magical. We took some photos of Megan and Aaron standing at the dock with the setting sun behind them. The photos were stunning, and they perfectly captured the beauty of their love.
